On May 24, 2024, Renmin University of China hosted the unveiling of the Key Research Base for Sociology (including Demography) Textbook Development, alongside the National Academic Seminar on Sociology Textbook Development. Over 60 experts and scholars from universities and research institutions nationwide attended.

Zhou Xiaohong, Senior Professor at Nanjing University and Deputy Director of the Academic Committee of the Chinese Sociological Association

Ma Guoqing, former Vice President of Minzu University and Vice President of the Chinese Anthropological Association

Bing Zheng, former Executive Deputy Dean of Jilin University

Du Peng, Vice President of the Chinese Population Association

Wang Yi highlighted the importance of textbooks in constructing an independent knowledge system for China and improving talent cultivation. The unveiling was officiated by Wang Yi, Li Youmei, Zhou Xiaohong, Ma Guoqing, Du Peng, Bing Zheng, Feng Shizheng (Vice President of Renmin University), and Xu Li, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of China Renmin University Press.

Zhou Xiaohong emphasized the long-standing efforts in sociology textbook development since the discipline’s reconstruction over 40 years ago. Du Peng noted that China's rapid modernization brings new challenges for sociology textbook construction. Bing Zheng praised the new research base as a national platform for the discipline.

Following the unveiling, two sub-forums were held on:

"The History, Status, and Challenges of Sociology Textbook Development in National Colleges"

"Textbook Development and the Autonomous Knowledge System of Chinese Sociology"

The unveiling ceremony was hosted by Feng Shizheng, Vice President of Renmin University of China, Dean of the School of Social Research, and Vice President of the Chinese Sociological Association.

Wang Yi delivered a speech on behalf of Renmin University of China. He pointed out that the construction of teaching materials is the most important thing in the effort to construct China's independent knowledge system and comprehensively improve the quality of independent cultivation of talents.

Wang Yi, Li Youmei, Zhou Xiaohong, Ma Guoqing, Du Peng, Bing Zheng, Feng Shizheng, and Xu Li, deputy editor-in-chief of the China Renmin University Press, inaugurated the key research base for the construction of teaching materials for sociology (including demography).

Feng Shizheng presided over the conference.

Zhou Xiaohong, Ma Guoqing, Du Peng and Bing Zheng delivered speeches as representatives of the academic community.。

Zhou Xiaohong said that in the more than 40 years of sociological reconstruction, the construction of teaching materials has been an important event in the joint efforts of sociological colleagues. The Department of Sociology of Renmin University of China has made positive achievements and laid down a good tradition in the construction of teaching materials for courses such as Introduction to Sociology and Social Psychology.

Ma Guoqing congratulated the establishment of the Sociology Textbook Base.

Du Peng said in his speech that the construction of Chinese-style modernization, the construction of China's independent knowledge system and the rapid development of Chinese society have put forward new tasks for the construction of teaching materials. This year is the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of demographic research at Renmin University of China, and the development of demography over the past fifty years has shown that the construction of teaching materials and the construction of the discipline are in mutual promoting.

Bing Zheng said that the establishment of the Key Research Base for Teaching Material Construction in Sociology (including Demography) in Higher Education is a great event in China's sociology, providing a national platform for teaching material construction and research in sociology.

After the inauguration ceremony, a seminar on teaching materials construction of the National Sociological Society was held in two sub-forums.

The first forum was chaired by Prof. Li Youmei, and the participating experts had a lively discussion on the theme of "History, Status and Countermeasures of Sociology Teaching Materials Construction in National Colleges and Universities".

The second sub-forum was chaired by Li Lulu, chairman of the Teaching Steering Committee for Sociology of the Ministry of Education and a professor at the national level, and the participating experts had a full discussion on the theme of "Textbook Construction and the Construction of Autonomous Knowledge System of Chinese Sociology".
