They Have Returned From the Overseas Field Study
The overseas field study is an innovative attempt by Renmin University of China to connect domestic and foreign resources and deepen academic exchanges. It adopts a collaborative approach that combines domestic learning with overseas practice to facilitate students' in-depth immersion in overseas fieldwork, participation in various trainings, practical experiences, research, conferences, etc. These activities broaden students' international perspectives, enhance the quality of talent cultivation in the discipline, and shape internationally-minded individuals with both academic abilities and patriotic sentiments.
The Summer Internship at the School of Social Work,
University of Illinois, USA
On June 16, 2023, two undergraduate students Wang Yixuan and Chen Ying participated in a two-month overseas field internship project in Illinois USA. The program is jointly held by the school of social work, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in the United States, and School of Sociology and Population Studies, Renmin University of China. Theprogram lasts for seven weeks, during which students engage in social work internships, visit local social work institutions, participate in academic lectures, and engage in seminars for exchange and learning.
Upon their return from the overseas field trip, Wang Yixuan and Chen Ying expressed that this experience was not only a valuable practical and learning experience in social work, but also an opportunity to deeply immerse themselves in cultural differences and engage in cross-cultural exchanges. This overseas field-study experience enhanced their professional skills, nurtured their beliefs in cross-cultural understanding and respect for diversity, and will profoundly impact their careers and personal growth.
Overseas Field Classroom in Uganda, an East African country
Jiang Ruzhang, a doctoral student ofAnthropology Department, conducted a field-study in Uganda, an East African country, from June 2 to August 27, 2023, for approximately three months. Hisfield works included a survey of the mental and physical health status of Ugandan youth, Chinese participation in the healthcare system of Ugandan.
