Registration for the 2nd Hang Seng Cup Social Governance Innovation Case Competition launched

In order to deeply study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, implement the spirit of the The 20 th CPC National Congress, respond to the CPC Central Committee's call and requirement of conducting investigation and research throughout the Party, construct China's independent knowledge system, and cultivate top-notch innovative talents in the new era, the School of Social Research at Renmin University of China is set to organize the second "Hang Sheng Cup" Social Governance Innovation Case Competition, slated to take place from September through November 2023. This prestigious event is open to all distinguished students across the university, and applications for participation are now being accepted.

The "Hangsheng Cup" Social Governance Innovation Case Competition is a university-wide event initiated by the School of Social Research at Renmin University of China, named in honor of Mr. Zheng Hangsheng, the pioneer of sociology of Renmin University of China during the new era of Reform and Opening up. This competition embodies the Communist Party of China's directive to nurture individuals who are "visionary yet grounded, thinkers as well as doers", promoting specific measures for the comprehensive transformation of the "Field as Classroom" talent training model towards progress, substance, and innovation. On November 13, 2022, the First "Hangsheng Cup" Social Governance Innovation Case Competition was successfully conducted.In 2023, the competition will continue to embody Renmin University of China's principle of "Seeking truth from facts," and uphold the School of Social Research's ethos of " Fraternity among people, dedication to work, and harmony in community." It will encourage students to delve into real-world cases, take root in the heart of China, engage in thorough field research, and achieve a profound comprehension of social realities. The goal is to harness their intellect to foster innovation in the theories and practices of social governance and to aid in the modernization endeavors of China.

Documentary of the First Hang Seng Cup Competition

Full-time undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled at Renmin University of China.

III. Competition Schedule and Format

1. Registration Period:

September 28, 2023 - October 10, 2023

4. Team Formation:

Participants are to form their own teams, with each team consisting of 3-5 members. Teams may include students from different grades and majors, and each individual is limited to participating in one team only. They may choose one instructor (who must be a faculty member from Renmin University), and each instructor can supervise up to two teams in the competition. Teams will select their own topics and analyze social governance cases through data collection and research, proposing innovative and feasible policy recommendations or solutions.

5. Competition Stages:

The competition is divided into two stages: the preliminary round and the final round.

(1) Preliminary Round

Judges will conduct anonymous evaluations of the cases submitted by the participating teams and select 10 cases to advance to the final round.

(2) Final Round

The final round will be in the form of a "pitch" session. Teams that have made it to the final round will present their cases using PPT and audio-visual materials and will respond to judges' questions. Judges will score the teams based on their presentations, and ultimately, one first prize, two second prizes, three third prizes, and a number of excellence awards will be selected.

IV. Awards

1. Based on the quality of the case, the competition will select first, second, and third prizes; if the quality of the case does not meet the relevant standards, the corresponding awards may be vacant.

2. All winning participants will receive certificates and cash prizes, with the first prize being 5000 RMB, the second prize 2000 RMB, the third prize 1000 RMB, and the excellence award 500 RMB.

3. Outstanding cases may have the opportunity to be included in the Case Library of Chinese Social Governance Innovation at the School of Social Research; case authors will receive a case inclusion certificate according to the relevant management regulations of the case center.

VI. Important Notes

1. Teams are encouraged to conduct surveys and research on the basis of ensuring safety, and to collect first-hand information through interviews, field investigations, and other methods.

2. Submitted cases must be original research; participating teams are prohibited from plagiarism, false reporting, or misrepresentation. Cases that have previously won other academic competitions, been included in other case libraries, or are concurrently registered for other academic competitions are not eligible for entry.
