Personal Profile

I research the contemporary Chinese popular religion and temple festival from the view of ordinary life and believers’ practice, and also focus on the urban culture of modern China, especially the evolutionary process of popular cultures such as crosstalk, the formation of folk artists’ groups, ordinary life and its changes in Beijing. I concern about theories of Chinese folklore, folk literature and art, costume customs, festival customs, and the imperial music office ( Jiaofang ) of the Tang dynasty. I enjoy writing essays as well. Currently, I am working mainly on the history of Chinese folklore studies, the history of sociology, and intangible cultural heritage.
